The Bufflehead Bay Trail Loop in western Pulaski County outside of Little Rock sits between the south shore of Lake Maumelle and just off of Highway 10. It offers views of the lake, the sailing club, the Alotian golf course and all three of the Maumelle Pinnacles. Only a little more than two miles long (with that “little more” being completely paved), it’s not a hard trail to traverse, though it is more difficult than it looks.
I wasn’t expecting much, so perhaps my surprise at this being an actual hiking trail with plenty of trees, rocks and animals shouldn’t be so surprising. It definitely offers a workout — especially if the temperature is in the middle 90s like it was this September day.
